Training and Capacity Building

The Coastal Training Centre, (formerly the First Nations Training & Development Centre)  was formed after the North Coast Tribal Council Education Centre closed its doors to the public. The Metlakatla First Nation purchased the assets of the NCTC Education Centre, changed the name and opened FNT&DC in July 1997.

The Centre's philosophy is "to provide a progressive First Nations Education Centre that will encompass the traditional ideologies of First Nations people and meet the educational challenges of the 21st century". The Centre has been successful in the past with a number of different programs: Early Childhood Education program from the Native Education College, the Natural Resource Tech Program; First Nations Public Administration, Aboriginal Tourism Management Diploma program and Family & Community Counseling. Currently, the Centre is offering an Adult Basic Education program and, in conjunction with the Justice Institute of BC, an Aboriginal Leadership Certificate program.
