ELECTION CODE PROCEDURES

Be advised that there is a process outlined in the Metlakatla Election Code to deal with concerns. Only the Metlakatla Justice Tribunal has the authority to take action over the Election Code. Action will only be taken by the Justice Tribunal once the proper procedure is followed.

If you would like to appeal the Election:

• Send letter by registered mail to Justice Tribunal in care of the Band Office.
• With letter send deposit of $100 (certified cheque or money order)
• Send details of errors or violations of Code in letter with supporting documentation.
• This letter must be received on or before September 15.
• If you win the appeal, your deposit will be returned. If the election is upheld, your deposit will not be returned.

In order to win an appeal, you must be able to prove that the Code was not followed.

NOTE: No action will be taken on letters or documents that have not followed the above process.

This page will be removed September 16, 2010. The Election Code will remain on the website's community pages. In the fall, a review of the Election Code will be done. Watch for notice of meeting so that you can attend in person with your recommendations for changes to the Election Code. An email will also be posted in case you can not attend the meeting but do have suggestions.
