Metlakatla Aquatics Resources (formerly Metlakatla Fisheries) would like to inform the membership that there have been large schools of herring, and several sites of herring spawn observed outside of the community. Members are advised to set their branches and boughs in the sites soon if they would like to harvest roe.

Sites are as follows:

Active spawn observed around Pearl Harbour Island group with an estimated length of 2.4 nm. Spot spawn on Flat top Island, Mist Island, along the western shore of Burnt Cliff and South Island.

The Metlakatla Treaty Office will be hosting two meetings on January 17 to provide an update on treaty negotiations and gain information on the importance of Metlakatla’s shared reserves. This meeting is for members only.

The Metlakatla Stewardship Society is hosting a community information meeting at the Highliner Inn on Wednesday, December 13. All interested in attending are asked to contact Patty Sankey at the phone number or email address listed on the attached poster.

The Metlakatla Lands Department wll be hosting two community open houses next week - on December 5 in Metlakatla and on December 6 in Prince Rupert - to gather information and feedback from members about the Metlakatla Reserve Land Use Plan. See the attached poster for more information.
