Elders Gathering, January 2010

On January 28-30, 2010, the Metlakatla Treaty hosted the 2nd Metlakatla Elders' gathering. The gathering, originally scheduled for December 3-5, 2009, was postponed when elder Joyce Leask became very ill. Mrs. Leask recovered and was able to attend a session of the gathering.

The sessions/presentations that were made included:

• Positive Communication by Jeannie Leighton
  
• Wills and Estates by Alrita Leask
  
• Traditional Yoga by Morgan Sundin
  
• Health and Aging by Tara Leighton
  
• Language/Culture by Ben Spencer
  
• Treaty by Harold Leighton & Barb Petzelt
  
• How to Budget by Northern Savings Credit Union.

Delicious and nutritious meals were prepared for the elders by Gwen Haldane and Charlene Ryan. The elders also were treated to massages from Susan Nelson, manicures from Sandy Beckwith and Heal 'n' Touch from Megan Yorke. Blood pressure and sugar levels were tested by Tara Leighton who is in her third year of training to become a nurse. A wind up banquet took place followed by entertainment by Arnesto and Co.
