Since 2012, there has been significant interest in developing terminals to export Liquefied Natural Gas Terminals within Metlakatla territory. These proposed projects also involve pipelines that transport the gas from drilling sites in Northeastern BC to the proposed terminals on the Coast
Over the past few years the Metlakatla’s programs (Governing Council, Development Corporation, Stewardship, Treaty) have been approached by government and industry, specifically to discuss LNG proposals. As with all proposed development in our territory, Metlakatla Stewardship Office engages with industry to ensure that Metlakatla’s interests are represented during the Environmental Assessment and referral process [link to internal page].
